Job Description
The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division as Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a postdoctoral appointee. With mentoring, the candidate will conduct research in heterogeneous catalysis for the fundamental understanding of the upcycling of plastic waste. The project will involve the design of batch and flow reactor systems for the catalytic deconstruction of polyolefins, the testing of inorganic nanostructured catalytic materials using high-throughput reactors, and the characterization of the upcycled products using a combination of analytical techniques including gas and liquid chromatography, and high-temperature gel-permeation chromatography. The successful candidate will undergo more detailed studies towards understanding the reaction mechanisms and determining the reaction kinetics.
Position Requirements
Considerable knowledge in reactor design and testing of various types of catalytic materials, including supported nanoparticles
Kinetics and mechanistic analyses of heterogeneous catalysts are essential
Experience in high-throughput experimentations and in-situ characterization of reacting catalyst system would be an asset
Considerable skill in written and oral communication is a requirement
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry or at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience
