Job Description

Laser & Plasma Technologies, an engineering company located at the modern National Institutes of Aerospace facility, adjacent to NASA LaRC, focuses in applied optics engineering and product development. The company is actively recruiting for a Senior Research Engineer - Technical Project Manager. The Technical Project Manager preferably holds a graduate degree in physics or engineering and has at least 10 years of experience in research and development as well as the design of new instrumentation, prototype devices and/or products. The scope of work of the Technical Project Manager would be to lead a Department of Navy sponsored company effort to deliver the integration of a fiber laser system with state of the art IR machine vision camera technology onto a collaborative robot. The application field is material preservation/sustainment for corrosion. Additionally, the Senior Research Engineer would play an important part in other active (NASA-LAMIS and Raman Spectroscopy and AF-Machine Vision and AI) SBIR engineering work. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills to work independently as well as across diverse expertise.

Ideal Candidate Background:

M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics or engineering and at least 10 years of experience in hands-on research and/or new instrumentation
Extensive coursework in optics
Scholarly publications
Prior work in imaging science
Experience in engineering part(s) in ThorLab, Edmunds Optics
Excellent team take command and leadership skills of other contributors
Passion for hands-on engineering and new technology development

Requirements:

Daily on site work in Hampton, Virginia
